What do you want to achieve with your store design?

Challenge

Yves and Carine, the owners of an electronics store in Hoeselt, Elektro Hauben, wanted to expand their shop by adding a space where they could promote their cooking products and equipment interactively. Their slogan: “meet, cook, and eat” perfectly captured the idea. A few years ago, we renovated the store, and now it was up to us again to create the extension and cooking space. Their wish was to create a practical demo kitchen where multiple people could test, cook, and taste simultaneously without getting in each other’s way.

What do you want to achieve with your store design?

Approach

The layout of this space was crucial—it needed to be both practical and atmospheric. The cooking island allows multiple people to cook at the same time, offering different views. Behind it, we installed a wall with various built-in appliances so that customers can easily experience and test the different devices. From the demo kitchen, you can see the entire cookware shop and all the products you’re cooking with. We gave careful consideration to these sightlines as well.

A central demo kitchen

Result

The demo kitchen is spacious and works very well in practice! Next to the demo kitchen, there’s a cozy terrace with matching tiles for a wine tasting. Behind it, there are several round tables separated by a ‘wine divider.’ The natural materials, such as the brick and concrete wall, create a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Unique design element

The ‘wine divider’ is a room divider made of wine bottles. It fits perfectly into the overall design, allowing you to showcase a wide selection of wines. A true win-win situation! Additionally, all the brick and concrete walls were created by artist Ron Muller, who crafts incredibly realistic ‘art’ from concrete cire.

A practical space for cooking workshops

Interior solutions

Elektro Hauben is a unique concept where a kitchen store merges with a practical space. During workshops, customers are given the opportunity to try out different products and appliances. When a customer has a positive experience with a product, it directly increases the chance of more sales. The result: a multifunctional retail space for workshops, product sales, and customer engagement. A great example of how important the experience in a store can be!
